Battle of the Books
Battle of the books is a fun way to involve literacy in your classroom. Each month, you pick an author and books by that author. Make a bracket and have each book battle it out until you are down to the final book, which will be the winner! To make it more fun make a voting box to have your students vote for their favorite book! This is a really cool monthly activity because you can integrate it with Social Studies, science, math, and other ELA topics
  1. Get a cardboard box
  2. Cut out the bottom of the box so their is a hole (so you can retrieve the votes
  3. Cut a small slit on the top of the box so students can put their votes in there
  4. Cover the box in construction paper
  5. Print off pictures of book covers and laminate (optional) to decorate the outside of the box
  6. Cut out Battle of the Books with a cricket (if you have one) and laminate (optional) for the top of the box
  7. Set up a corner to be your voting booth
